אך, נורמה ג׳ין עברה ילדות לא פשוטה כלל. היא נמסרה ע״י אמה למשפחת אומנה, שם גדלה עד גיל 7. אחכ חזרה לבית אמה למספר חודשים, עד שזו התמוטטה. היא הועברה לבית יתומים עד גיל 11 ומשם שוב למשפחות אומנה עד לנישואים פיקטיביים בגיל 16 כדי להימנע שוב מבית יתומים.

אני בטוחה שזה לא היה פשוט להצליח להגשים את עצמה בעולם גברי, אז עוד יותר מהיום, לרצות את החברה סביבה, לעמוד בציפיות ולספק לכולם מודל נשי, אידיאל יופי, וסקס אפיל תמידי.
כאשר למעשה מבפנים ככל הנראה, היא הרגישה שמשהו חסר, ריקנות, בדידות, חוסר סיפוק, לא שלמה, מרוחקת מעצמה ומתחושותיה הפנימיות.
לדעתי יש להעריך ולהעריץ אותה על הדרך שעשתה מהמקום אליו נולדה למקום אליו הגיעה. חבל שלא מצאה בעצמה את הכוחות ואת הדרך להיות אמיתית עם עצמה ולפעול מתוך שלמות וכיבוד עצמי. היא נכנעה לתכתיבים חברתיים שדרשו ממנה להציג את הדמות החיצונית בלבד שהציבור הרחב כל כך אהב.
זה לא פשוט ולא קל להצליח להילחם על מי שאתה. לחיות את עצמך האמיתי.
